Disability support
Kangan Batman TAFE's Disability Support Service provides learning support for students with a disability. We are here to help you enjoy your time at Kangan Batman as a student, and to make it as easy as possible for you to complete your course. The following services are available at all campuses:
Assistance with applying for courses
You might need:
- assistance with filling out forms
- referral to other services as required
- communication assistance for selection interviews
- a scribe for selection interviews or tests
Direct learning support
Services we might be able to provide include:
- note-takers
- participation assistance
- tutors
- sign language interpreters
- tutorial groups
Support for negotiating alternative assessment*
We may be able to negotiate:
- extended time for exams
- oral instead of written assessment
- scribes for written tests
- modified assessment
*An appointment must be made with a Disability Liaison Officer to discuss arrangements for alternate assessment.
Information and referral service
The Disability Liaison Officers can refer students to other relevant services within Kangan Batman TAFE.
They can also provide information about other agencies and services for people with a disability. You can also find out about such services online:

Advocacy support
The Disability Liaison Officers are available for students with a disability who need advocacy support in communicating their needs to other Kangan Batman TAFE staff or external agencies.
Specialised study materials
Check with Disability Support to see what is available. For example, you might need:
- ergonomic chairs/footrests/document holders
- tape recorders
- large print photocopying
- lap top computer
- zoom text
Am I eligible?
At Kangan Batman TAFE, we define disability as:
A permanent, temporary or episodic disability that is attributable to a:
- medical condition
- psychiatric condition
- sensory, physical, cognitive or learning impairment (eg dyslexia)
Or, it might be a combination of conditions that result in:
- a reduced ability to access educational services provided by Kangan Batman TAFE
- a need for support to overcome these barriers
To be eligible for learning support you must provide evidence of your disability. This could be a Disability Pension Card, a document that confirms your medical condition, or a recent learning assessment.
