Students dominate Developing Tourism Leaders Awards

Final year Kangan Batman TAFE Hospitality and Tourism students have once again dominated the Developing Tourism Leaders Awards, winning six out of a total 12 awards across the state.

Sponsored by Melbourne Airport and run by Service Skills Victoria, all applicants had to develop innovative business/event plans, which tested their knowledge of the tourism industry and skills in product innovation.

Kangan Batman TAFE senior hospitality, travel and tourism educator Pauline Porcaro is thrilled with the students.

"It's such a great result for us. I am extremely proud of them and knew they would do well," she said.

The awards were presented to the students on Monday November 10 at the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI). Kangan Batman TAFE award winners were:

First prize winner Lorena Ropain accepting her award from Peter Brown, Executive Director of the Fifteen Foundation Australia.

First Prize: Lorena Ropain, Advanced Diploma of Hospitality International student with her business plan 'Recess Café'

Second Prize: Cesar Gedeon , Advanced Diploma of Hospitality International student with his business plan 'Le Chalet de Raclette'

Merit award: Vicki Pettingill, Advanced Diploma of Hospitality with her business plan 'The Dog's Breakfast'
