How do I renew my books?

How do I find out when my books are due back?

You can check when your items are due back:

  • in person at the loans desk of any LLC
  • via telephone (see LLC contact details)
  • using the patron function of the LLC catalogue
  • Look at the date due slip in the front of the items that you have borrowed

How will I receive notices from the LLC?

All notices including courtesy, overdue and hold notices will be emailed to your Kangan Institute student email address. You will receive a courtesy notice two days before your items are due back. The first overdue notice will be emailed on the day your items become overdue and the second and final overdue notice will be emailed 2 weeks after your items become overdue.

How do I put an item on hold?

Holds can be placed on items either currently on loan or located at another campus LLC:

  • By visiting your campus LLC in person
  • Phoning us
  • Using the LLC catalogue

Does the LLC impose fines for overdue items?

Yes. You will be fined for any items which are returned late. Fines vary according to material type (see below.) Your borrowing rights will be suspended until overdue items are returned and fines are cleared.

What are the LLC opening hours?

The LLC's operate on term hours during the school year. During the school holidays the LLC opening hours are reduced.

How do I get a password to use the online databases and resources?

Our licensing arrangements with a number of online resource providers require us to restrict access to staff and students of Kangan Institute only. You can collect a copy of the sheet - "2006 LLC Online Resources Guide Password List" from your LLC or request one via email from llc@kangan.edu.au You will need to be able to quote your student or staff card number.

How do I book a computer?

All LLCs have computers available for student use. You can book PCs via the Pharos self booking system. The maximum daily pc usage varies from campus to campus.

Black & white printing costs 15 cents per A4 page and colour (where available) costs $1.03 per A4 page.

KBT students can borrow a maximum of 20 items at any one time.

This includes a limit of two seven-day loan videos/DVDs.

The above fines apply to the late return of items. You will not be able to borrow from Campus LLCs if you have any overdue loans or unpaid fines/charges.

Can I borrow from other TAFE and University Libraries?

Current enrolled students of Kangan Institute are eligible to borrow from other TAFE and University Libraries in Victoria via the CAVAL reciprocal borrowing program.

To register, present your Kangan Institute student card at the Information Desk in the LLC. Fill out an enrolment form and you will be issued with a CAVAL card. Take your CAVAL card and your Kangan Institute student card to participating institutions and enrol to use their library facilities.

Can I borrow items from Kangan Institute LLC when I don't have a Student Card?

You can borrow items from the LLC without having a current student card by joining as a Community User. The Community User membership costs $55 for 12 months. Community Users can borrow some items from the LLC, and can use the PC's. Check with LLC staff for more details.

Short Course students should see LLC staff to obtain a temporary LLC card.
