Ever since I was little I've wanted to get into the fashion industry. I really like designing and making my own clothes and accessories, so when I found out the VET in Schools program offers a course in fashion design and technology, I applied right away. Kangan Batman TAFE has just spent a lot of money building the new Centre of Fashion @ Richmond, so it's a great place to learn all about the fashion industry and I've even discovered some skills I didn't know I had.

The Automotive Centre of Excellence is an awesome place to learn about the auto industry. It's right in the city and has the equipment that I would be using in real mechanics workshops. I've just finished the Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies which is also a paint and panel pre-apprenticeship, so I'm hoping to start my full apprenticeship next year.

One day I want to be a social worker, so the in Schools Certificate II in Community Services Work was a good way to start. Most of the subjects aren't available through my school but were really valuable. I didn't realise there were so many job options in this industry, so there are lots of opportunities for me to do more study next year.

Knowing that the business course is delivered at my secondary school makes it so much easier to combine my VCE with VET in Schools. I like to know that what I'm doing now is going to benefit my future, and the Certificate II in Business was a good first step towards what I hope will be a successful career.

My dad's a landscape gardener and I've always been interested in following in his footsteps, but I wanted to get some sort of qualification before starting work with him. The Certificate II in Horticulture taught things like workplace communication,OH&S and how to operate machinery.

I'd definitely recommend a course in Media to other students because I feel like it's given me a really good grounding in understanding what's involved in a career in the web design industry. Before I started the course I wasn't 100 percent sure what I wanted to do when I left school, but now that I've finished and I can go on to a guaranteed pathway with Kangan Batman TAFE, I'm confident that I've chosen the right career for me.
