Course overview
This course is designed for the car or vehicle enthusiast who is undertaking or planning to undertake a vehicle restoration or wanting to do basic electrical repairs or maintenance to their vehicle.
The restoration or repair may be on an early model vintage, veteran or historic vehicle or even a later model car that you are looking to bring back to its original condition or perhaps a slight customization.

Learning outcomes
Participants will learn the basic electrical fundamentals such as A/C and D/C current, voltage, resistance, circuit protection and types, circuit faults, and diagnostics.
You will learn how to measure electricity using basic electrical equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, test lights, timing lights and dwell meters.
You will also learn basic maintenance techniques for setting vehicle dwell, timing, adjusting generator and alternator charge rates and how to select correct wire size, repair or manufacture a basic wiring loom and repair a basic electrical; fault.
Pre-requisite & eligibility requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, participants will need to be comfortable using power tools and equipment and have a general interest in cars.
Participant requirements
Participants in this course are required to provide and wear safety clothing and footwear which will include long sleeve shirt and pants preferably overalls, and full cover closed shoe, preferably work boots or shoes.
Personal protective equipment such as eye, hearing protection will be supplied; however, participants may provide their own.
Additional information
Participants will not be allowed to bring vehicles into class to work on
Whilst the Docklands Campus is centrally located and has easy access to public transport including within walking distance to Southern Cross station, there is no parking at the campus.
Public parking is available within easy walking distance to the Docklands campus. (see map on the web site)
What you receive at the completion of the course?
Participants will receive a Statement of Participation on successful completion of the course.
