Course overview

This course is designed for the car enthusiasts or trades person working in the automotive industry who would like to get an overview and some hands on experience in safely fitting Automotive Electrical Accessories. Accessories may include CB Radios, Driving Lights, Fog Lights, and AUX Plugs.

Learning outcomes

Participants will learn the basic electrical fundamentals such as A/C and D/C current, voltage, resistance, circuit types, circuit faults, and diagnostics.

You will learn how to isolate the vehicle so that a safe instillation can be carried out, drafting of schematics to identify system integration, and how to determine fitting requirements for compliance and integration such as wire gauge, relay ratings and fuse sizes.

Pre-requisite & eligibility requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, participants will need to be comfortable using power tools and equipment and have a general interest in cars.

Participant requirements

Participants in this course are required to provide and wear safety clothing and footwear which will include long sleeve shirt and pants preferably overalls, and full cover closed shoe, preferably work boots or shoes.

Personal protective equipment such as eye, hearing protection will be supplied; however, participants may provide their own.

Additional information

Participants will not be allowed to bring vehicles into class to work on

Whilst the Docklands Campus is centrally located and has easy access to public transport including within walking distance to Southern Cross station, there is no parking at the campus.

Public parking is available within easy walking distance to the Docklands campus. (see map on the web site)

What you receive at the completion of the course?

Participants will receive a Statement of Participation on successful completion of the course.
