Course overview
Whether as an industry career taster or for the keen auto restorer, this course is an ideal introduction to the ins and outs of vehicle painting.
You’ll learn the basics of painting materials, spray painting skills, equipment and techniques used in the automotive industry.
Learning outcomes
- Basic understanding of automotive paint techniques
- Safety
- Paint removal by emulsion type material
- Substrate preparation and pressing
- Hand and spray putty application
- Application of guide coat and sanding of putty
- Preparation and application of primer surfacer
- Preparation and application of acrylic solid colour and metallic colours
- Cut and polish

Note: Mandatory Respirator (supplied by ACE) and PPE equipment (long sleeved overalls and designated safety boots) required.
Participant requirements
Student must supply and wear the following PPE: Long sleeved overalls, safety glasses and designated safety boots. Mandatory respirator will be supplied.
