Course structure

Full-time (20 hours / week)

In this program, students will learn what is involved in all parts of hospitality operations while improving their English at the same time. It is ideal for people who want an edge when looking for work in the hospitality industry.

Start with a four week program in our modern ELICOS campus in the heart of Melbourne CBD, where you will learn the communication skills you need to succeed in this growing industry!

Then, learn the art of coffee making, preparing cocktails, setting tables, basic cooking skills and serving beverages whilst having a fun, action-packed two weeks of training with experienced industry facilitators in Richards Restaurant and Training Kitchen at the Broadmeadows campus.

Features:

Four weeks of English specifically targeted at the hospitality field: Learn English from our qualified and friendly teachers at our cutting edge CBD campus

Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA: SITHFAB009A): Accredited by Liquor Licensing Victoria and a nationally recognised training unit.

Follow workplace hygiene procedures (RSF: SITXOHS002A): Perfect for people starting out in the food industry and a requirement for all food and beverage staff. This introductory course gives you the basics of safe food handling.

Barista training: The first steps in becoming a barista; learn your way around the espresso machine, the art of texturing milk, extracting espresso and what required to launch a career as a barista.

Service of food and beverages: Take your first steps into the world of restaurant service. Learn the art of setting tables in a five-star environment, carrying four plates, docket writing, order taking and making cocktails.

Cooking: Learn the basic knife skills, how a kitchen runs and what the world of a professional chef is all about. Have some fun making your own pizzas, pastas, soups and cakes.

Participants will receive a professional waiter apron and all resources needed to complete the course. There is also a possibility of obtaining work placement with one of Kangan Institute Industry partners.
