This course gives you higher level skills, following on from the completion of a Diploma course. It provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in planning, technical design, implementation and management of complex and high level ICT networks.

This course may lead to work in supervisory or management positions in areas such as E Risk Manager, ICT Security Specialist, IT Security Administrator, IT Security Analyst or Engineer, Network Engineer, Network Security Analyst, Network Security Specialist.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in a robust ICT technical base in the security of networks and systems, implementing risk management processes, implementing change management processes, building high security firewalls and managing business websites and servers.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
This course will lead to higher studies at the university level. Credit transfers may be available into other Diploma courses and you may be eligible to continue on to higher level studies through an undergraduate degree.
Can I apply?
You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed the Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) or an approved equivalent course such as the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) and the work requirements; or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.

To apply for a full-time position for this course, you must apply through VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre). Details of the VTAC application process are available from the VTAC website at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide which is available from leading newsagents and libraries in August each year. New Apprentices/Trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a "Contract of training" by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC).These AAC's are located in Metropolitan and regional centres.

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to attend an interview. You may have to complete a pre-selection form and be prepared to do an aptitude test and an English language test.
How long is the course?
The course spans over an extra 12 months on completion of the Diploma of Information Technology (Networking)
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Broadmeadows Campus. The course can be completed studying either full time or part time. Classes are held only during the day.
What costs and other fees should I expect?
Contact us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au for a fee schedule. Text books may cost up to $300.00. It is recommended that you have an external USB hard disk of at least 80 GB capacity.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.

The course focuses on security of networks and systems, risk management, change management, firewalls, business websites and servers. Technologies include - Windows Server 2008, CISCO, Linux, IBM Systemi, VMWARE.
