Kangan Institute 2013 Diploma and Advanced Diploma tuition fees

Course overview

This course prepares you with the skills necessary to work in the marketing field.

Full-time day course:
This course is offered at our Broadmeadows campus over 6 months in conjunction with either an Advanced Diploma of Management (6 months) as part of a full time course. The full course spans 2 years incorporating underpinning Certificate IV in Frontline Management in conjunction with a Certificate IV of Marketing (9 months) followed by a Diploma in Marketing in conjunction with a Diploma of Management (9 months) and culminating with an Advanced Diploma.

Although this course is offered as a dual qualification, students have the option of studying one stream or the other or both.

Student Contact Hours

Diploma and advanced diploma students are no longer eligible for a concession or exemption of tuition fees however VET FEE HELP is available to eligible students. Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander students can continue accessing concession rates at all program levels (including diploma and advanced diploma).

If you have to undertake training as part of Skills Recognition, your tuition fees are charged according to the applicable rate per Student Contact Hour depending on your eligibility for government subsidised, Indigenous concession or full fees. What costs and other fees should I expect?

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to work in supervisory or management positions in marketing or sales positions in areas such as retailing, industrial or services marketing.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

This course aims to improve knowledge and practical skills in the current competitive market associated with all aspects of marketing in business. You will acquire the basic marketing principles and procedures to the level of a field sales manager or a marketing practitioner. It will offer a broad insight into the practices and procedures of progressive marketing officers and their assistants.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Marketing. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

Kangan Institute students who graduate with an Advanced Diploma of Marketing are able to take advantage of the 'pathways' arrangement with LaTrobe University. Students can receive advanced standing (credit) in the form of both priority entry and course credit points towards a bachelor qualification. Each university study unit carries a credit point value.

As of 03/2010, students who have graduated with the Advanced Diploma of Marketing can utilise advanced standing pathways in the following bachelor degrees:

- Bachelor of Accounting [90 credit points]
- Bachelor of Business (majoring in Marketing) [120 credit points]
- Bachelor of Business (all other majors) [105 credit points]
- Bachelor of Business (HRM) [105 credit points]
- Bachelor of Business (Marketing) [120 credit points]
- Bachelor of Economics [90 credit points]
- Bachelor of Finance [90 credit points]
- Bachelor of International Business [120 credit points]

Can I apply?

Satisfactory completion of VCE or mature age. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

How do I apply?

This course is offered through VTAC; therefore full time applications for the course must lodge their applications using the VTAC Online Application. Details of the application process can be obtained through the VTAC website or through the VTAC Guide which is available from leading newsagents and libraries in July.

Direct application will be considered once the VTAC places have been offered and there are vacancies in the course. How will I be selected for this course?

VTAC selection is based on the score where applicable. Mature age and other applicants will be required to attend an interview/enrolment session.

How long is the course?

This course is approximately six months of full-time study or two years of part-time study depending on the number of units undertaken each semester and the availability of units. The nominal hours for this course are between 420-500 hours. All eight units must be successfully completed in order to obtain the qualification. The length of the course will be determined on an individual basis depending upon previous formal study, work and life experience.

Where and how can I study?

This course is offered at the Broadmeadows campus in classroom mode only on a full-time basis in the day.

How will I be assessed?

A mixture of practical tutorials, demonstration, case studies, project work and written tests will be used in assessing this course. Assessment is a necessary part of this program, to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards. You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment and you will be provided with this information.


What must you bring to enrolment?
This letter confirming your offer of a place in the course
Proof of Australian citizenship/residency (birth certificate, passport or citizenship documents)
Proof of age if under the age of 20 as at 1st of January, 2011 (birth certificate, driver licence, passport)

Additional comments

Normally students commence study at the Certificate IV level and continue onto Diploma and Advanced Diploma. Students can exit their studies after completion of any of the levels, i.e. Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma.

This course is offered in conjuction with the Advanced Diploma of Managaement as part of the full time course, available at the Broadmeadows Campus only. Although this course is offered as a dual qualification, students have the option of studying one stream or the other or both.

What will I study?

The subjects you will study are: evaluate e-business opportunities; develop an e-business strategy; provide leadership across the organisation; implement a marketing solution; develop marketing strategies; develop a marketing plan; manage the marketing process; develop and manage direct marketing campaigns; evaluate international marketing opportunities; and manage international marketing programs.
