What will I study?
Ours is a small but dynamic department, offering students an individual approach to learning in a caring environment. Classes are a mix of practical activities (including industry familiarisations, excursions and on-site guest speakers, activities where students assist in the organization and running of events or running a tour on a mini-bus driven by our tour guiding teacher) and the theoretical course content, where students will learn skills such as fares & ticketing and the airline automated reservations system, Galileo. Students are consistently engaged in hands-on learning and some of the recent activities that have enhanced their learning include-:
- A Victorian eco-tourism educational trip to Halls Gap
- An overseas tour
- Winery tours
- Attendance at industry meetings and forums
- Registration of conference delegates at a range of external venues
- Catering and registration of a design students’ conference at Southbank
- A European Travel Expo
- A Food & Wine Festival
- A Careers Conference
Our learning environment encourages students to achieve their personal best, with a number of our students achieving excellent results in the state-wide Developing Tourism Business Leaders awards over the past nine years. Competing against all the major universities and TAFE Institutes, our Hospitality, Events and Tourism students have performed well in this competition, gaining many of the top prizes including overseas trips since 1999 plus a range of other prizes.
