Course overview
The Certificate I in Information Communication Technology is a nationally accredited course. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to function at a basic level of ICT competency in the contemporary information society. It will enable a person to undertake basic ICT functions using a personal computer and to engage in fundamental online activities. It could be described as 'the community standard in ICT literacy' and may be wholly or partially used as an access and equity program. Its objective is to enable people to acquire basic ICT knowledge and skills at a fundamental or foundation level.

What employment opportunities will I have?
The qualification provides for basic computer skills in the workplace and as such small to medium enterprises (SMEs) will find the contents of this qualification useful at a basic ICT user level. The contents of this qualification may also provide supplement existing roles in other industries where basic ICT skills have become necessary; for example in retailing where basic shop front computer usage is prevalent, in warehousing where automation of stock and inventory control has occurred or in manufacturing at shop floor level for monitoring metrics of team performance and processes.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
On successful completion of this course, the candidate will be awarded the Certificate I in Information Communication Technology. You will gain skills in word processing operations, spreadsheet operations, using a database and using the internet.
What qualifications will I receive?
When you successfully complete the course, you will be awarded the Certificate I in Information Technology. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
On successful completion of the course you will contain a National Recognized Qualification required as a prerequisite for Certificate II, III, IV and Diploma in IT.
Can I apply?
There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification. However, prerequisite arrangements for any non ICA05 elective units in this qualification should be checked with the originating Training Package.

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will be invited to attend an information session. Basic computer skills, basic word processing skills, basic internet skills.
How long is the course?
This course runs part time for the duration of six months.This course is delivered online and flexibly. This allows you to work at your own pace in the environment that suits you best; at home, work, or another campus.
For Indigenous students, the Indigenous Education Centre has its own Flexible Learning Centre with free computer and internet access. Regular contact with teachers (email/phone/face-to-face) is recommended to answer any queries and ensure your study plan is working effectively for you.

How will I be assessed?
You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of written assignments or tests, oral tests and practical assessments in class, or during a work placement. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
