Course overview
This course is designed to provide individuals to function at a basic level of IT competency in the information society. It will enable a person to undertake basic IT functions using a personal computer and to engage in fundamental online activities.

What employment opportunities will I have?
This course may lead to employment wherever basic computer skills are required in the workplace. Contents of this qualification are useful at a basic ICT user level.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in operating a personal computer, using word processing and presentation packages, using the internet for searching information and making on-line transactions.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate I in Information Technology. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
This course will lead to higher level studies at Certificate II in Information Technology.
Can I apply?
There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course.
How do I apply?
You must obtain an application form from the institute. This course may also have a mid-year intake.

All applicants will need to attend an interview / enrolment

The course spans over a semester of part time study.
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Broadmeadows and Moreland campuses attending classes. This course can also be undertaken flexibly at the Essendon Campus.

How will I be assessed?
A mixture of observation and practical tests will be used in assessing this course. Assessment is a necessary part of this program, to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards. You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment and you will be provided with this information.
