This course provides you with a grounding in automotive skills, literacy and numeracy so you may enter pre-apprentice training or an automotive traineeship or apprenticeship.

What employment opportunities will I have?
This is a skills based course which prepares you for pre-apprentice training or an automotive traineeship or apprenticeship.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in literacy, numeracy and automotive basics and develop self-confidence and the ability to cope with competency-based learning.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate I in Vocational Preparation (a statement of results). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
The course will assist you to gain the skills needed to undertake a pre-apprentice automotive course.
Can I apply?
There are no set prerequisites for this course. You can apply if you are 15 years or older and wish to improve your literacy, numeracy and automotive skills.
How do I apply?
All applicants need to attend an information session. These are held every Monday (except school holidays) at 1pm at the Coburg Campus. The session takes about one hour. You don't need to book just go to the Customer Service Centre at Coburg and you will be directed.
How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to attend an interview.
How long is the course?
This is a 10 week course of four days per week.
Where and how can I study?
For the rest of 2011, this course may be offered at the Coburg or Richmond campuses. As of 2012, all automotive courses will be run from our ACE campus in Docklands.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.
