Course overview
This is an entry level course for people with a mild intellectual disability or a learning disability who want to improve their work skills and gain work experience in various industries.
Studies and work placement offered in motor mechanics and panel beating, cooking/hospitality, gardening/horticulture, retail, office skills, furniture making.

What costs and other fees should I expect?
This a foundation level course.

What employment opportunities will I have?
Successful completion of this course may lead to employment in a range of entry level positions in a range of industries.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain organisational, communication, numeracy and employability skills.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate I in Work Education. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
This course will lead to higher level studies at Certicate II level.
Can I apply?
There are no set education level for this course however this is a course for people with an intellectual/learning disability.
You can apply if you are 16 years or older and wish to improve your work skills and get a job.
How do I apply?
Interviews and enrolments for 2012 have been completed.

How will I be selected for this course?
By interview. Selection will be based on your motivation to work and having the level of independence required to study in an adult learning environment.
How long is the course?
18 months - 2 years of full-time study (3-4 days per week). The course may be completed part-time over a longer period.
Where and how can I study?
The course runs at our Broadmeadows campus.
Automotive electives are run at the Docklands campus.
Students will be shown how to get to this campus on public transport on the first day of class.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment in class or while on work experience. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will happen. If needed you will have the chance for reassessment and/or appeal.

What will I study?
Core subjects include goal setting and planning, workplace health and safety, numeracy, communication, preparation for work.
Electives include panel beating/spray painting, motor mechanics, office skills, retail, cooking and food preparation, gardening and furniture.
