Course overview
The course is a pre-apprenticeship program which covers both the Vehicle Painting and Panel Beating trade areas.
Students will cover both Theory and Practical assessments.
Classes are run 4 days a week with the following structure:
Monday and Friday: 8.00am - 12.15pm
Tuesday and Thursdays: 8.00am - 4.30pm
NO CLASSES ON A WEDNESDAY

What costs and other fees should I expect?
Call 13 TAFE (13 8233) for fees . If you have a Health Care card please bring it with you for concessional fees.
All reference books are provided. PPE is mandatory and there may be extra costs for specialised materials. E.g. Overalls and safety work boots.
What employment opportunities will I have?
The course enables the student to have the basic needs they require to gain employment as an apprentice in Vehicle Painting, Panel Beating or Body Making.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain a mixture of skills from the automotive vehicle painting and panel beating industries. You will learn about panel repair and paint preparation.
What qualifications will I receive?
You will be awarded the Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You will become eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as Certificate III in related automotive studies. If you complete a certificate III you will recieve credit for modules that you have completed in Cerificate II in Automotive Technology Studies

You can apply if you are 15 years or older.
How do I apply?
To apply for this course, you need to attend an information session held every Monday at 1.30pm in Kangan Institute's Docklands campus, the ACE. There are 5 intakes over the year, each running for 12 weeks. An interview session is run several weeks before the start of the course and students will be contacted via phone and receive letters to this effect.
How will I be selected for this course?
You will need to attend a group interview and a one-on-one interview with the Program Coordinators. There is a literacy and numeracy test involved to determine if assistance is required whilst on the course.
How long is the course?
This course runs for 12 weeks.
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Docklands campus.
How will I be assessed?
This course requires an attendance rate of 80%. You may be assessed by a combination of written assignments or tests, oral tests and practical assessments in class. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate.
