What costs and other fees should I expect?

Contact the Call Centre on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or 9279 2222 for a fee schedule. There may be extra costs for reference books, protective clothing and specialised materials.

What employment opportunities will I have?

You will have completed part of the theory component of the relevant apprenticeship, assisting with going on to an apprenticeship in a chosen field of study. This course may give you some credits towards your apprenticeship.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

The course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in the automotive electrical, motor mechanic, spare parts interpreting, heavy vehicle, light engine or marine mechanic industries.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is recognised throughout Victoria.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

Credit transfers may be available into related Certificate III courses. Further opportunities in the automotive industry may include Certificate IV or diploma courses.

Can I apply?

You are eligible to apply if you are aged 15 years or over.

How do I apply?

You need to attend an information session. These are held at the Richmond or Coburg Campus at 1.30pm every Monday.

How will I be selected for this course?

Applicants will be interviewed and have to complete a basic literacy/numeracy task.

How long is the course?

The course involves 400 hours of study, usually completed within 18 to 20 weeks.

Where and how can I study?

For the rest of 2011, this course may be offered at the Coburg or Richmond campuses. As of 2012, all automotive courses will be run from our ACE campus in Docklands.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.

Additional comments

You need to attend an information session. These are held at the Richmond or Coburg Campus at 1:30pm every Monday during school term. You don’t need to book for these sessions just go to the Customer Service Centre at the campus and tell them you have come for the information session.
