Course overview

This course is designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. If you are interested in an office career this course will give you the basic administrative and computer skills expected of clerical workers.

What employment opportunities will I have?

The Certificate II in Business course will give you entry-level office skills at the level of an administration assistant.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

This course will give you a good understanding of the business procedures of a modern office. You will learn a range of basic office skills - using a computer keyboard, word processing and other aspects of computers, customer relation skills and telephone techniques.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate II in Business Administration. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

Graduates of this course are able to enrol in the Certificate III in Business.

Can I apply?

You can apply if you are unemployed; if you are employed and want to switch jobs to office work; or if you have worked in offices before and want to retrain or update your skills.

You may apply directly to the Institute. Contact the Indigenous Education Centre at the Broadmeadows campus on 9279 2357 or obtain an application form from the Institute. Call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. This course has a mid-year intake.

How will I be selected for this course?

All prospective students will need to contact the program coordinator and attend an induction session.

How long is the course?

This course runs for about six months full-time. Classes run two half-days a week.

Days of attendance - Wednesdays and Thursdays - 9am - 1:15pm.

This course is also available part-time.

Where and how can I study?

This course is offered at the Indigenous Education Centre - Kangan Institute in Broadmeadows.

It is also offered online. This course has a mid-year entry.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is ungraded and ongoing.

The course is run at the Indigenous Education Centre where Indigenous people are welcome in a comfortable and positive learning environment in which the Koori culture is respected and celebrated.
