Course overview

If you want start your office career, this course will give you the basic administrative and computer skills expected from office and administration workers. When you graduate, you will be eligible to enrol in the Certificate III in Business and progress up to the Diploma level.

What employment opportunities will I have?

When you successfully complete this course you can apply for work at the entry level of general office administrative assistant. Eg. Receptionist, administrative officer/assistant.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

This course is designed to provide skills in basic office procedures including: typing, word processing, creating simple spreadsheets and electronic presentations, workplace communication and customer service skills.

What qualifications will I receive?

You will be awarded the Certificate II in Business. This course is nationally recognised as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You will become eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as the Certificate III in Business, followed by Certificate IV in Business Administration and then the Diploma of Business Administration.

Upon completion of the Diploma, this qualification can be used as a pathway to university.

How will I be selected for this course?

You will be interviewed by our teachers to assess your basic literacy and numeracy skills and suitability for the course.

How long is the course?

Six months of full-time study. Twelve months for part-time study.

Where and how can I study?

Full-time day classes are held at the Broadmeadows Campus. Part-time day and evening classes are held at the Broadmeadows Campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required for the course. You will be assessed by written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type and dates of assessment. If required, you will have the opportunity for reassessment.

What must you bring to enrolment?

- Letter confirming your offer of a place in the course
- Proof of Australian citizenship/residency (birth certificate, passport, medicare card or citizenship documents)
- Proof of age if under the age of 20 as at 1st of January, 2011 (birth certificate, driver licence, passport)

What will I study?

You must satisfactorily complete twelve (12) units of competency. (See the list of modules for full time study.)

A separate list of competencies will be provided for part time evening students on enquiry or at enrolment.
