Course overview

This course provides a foundation in Computer Systems Engineering skills and knowledge for anyone wanting to be an effective computer assembler/repairer. This course is made up of 19 units of which 17 are core units.

What employment opportunities will I have?

When you successfully complete this course, you can continue on to higher levels of study or apply for work in a range of jobs where basic computer assembly/repair skills are necessary. For example graduates could be employed in work places where computer sales/servicing is undertaken.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in assembling/repairing a computer, installing operating system, installing software and trouble shooting faults in hardware and software.

What qualifications will I receive?

You will be awarded the Certificate II in Computer Assembly and Repair. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You will become eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as the Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering and then on to higher education at a recognised University.

How will I be selected for this course?

At an enrolment session you will have to complete a basic literacy and numeracy test. You will also be interviewed.

How long is the course?

One year for flexible/online students

Where and how can I study?

This course is offered flexible/online. Four days face to face support available for students that require additional support at the Broadmeadows Campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of assignments, theory tests, practical tests and observation. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
