Course overview

This qualification teaches the skills and knowledge required by those working in a production environment in the manufacture of free-standing furniture or built-in cabinets as well as those providing on-site assistance in the installation of furniture or cabinets. Job roles/employment outcomes are also covered.

Job roles covered by this qualification include assistant cabinet maker, assistant installer of built-in cabinets, and production operator within a cabinet making enterprise. Cabinets include free-standing and built-in furniture.

What costs and other fees should I expect?

For a fee schedule, call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or (03) 9279 2222. Alternatively email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. There will be extra costs for reference books of approximately $150, protective clothing of approximately $120 and specialised materials of approximately $440.

What employment opportunities will I have?

When you successfully complete this course you may apply for work in a range of jobs within the furnishings industry. Job roles covered by this qualification include assistant cabinet maker, assistant installer of built-in cabinets, and production operator within a cabinet making enterprise.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in the theoretical, communication, drawing, machining and practical elements of cabinet making to enable you to gain employment in the furnishing industry.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of this course you will be awarded the (LMF20309 Certificate II in Furniture Making). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course will lead to higher level studies at Certificate III in Cabinet Making. Credit transfers may also be available.

Can I apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods.
