This course provides a foundation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills and knowledge, for you to be an effective ICT user or employee. It is possible to achieve this qualification during the final years of secondary school education.

What employment opportunities will I have?

When you successfully complete this course, you can continue on to higher levels of study or apply for work in a range of jobs where basic computer skills have become necessary. For example graduates are employed in work places such as small to medium enterprises, warehousing, inventory control and retailing.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain intermediate skills in word processing operations, spreadsheet operations, using a database and using the internet. Computer hardware related subjects are also included.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the Certificate II in Information Technology. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You will become eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as the Certificate III in Information Technology, up to an Advanced Diploma of Information Technology.

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander People are encouraged to apply.

How will I be selected for this course?

All prospective Koori students will need to contact us and attend an induction session.

How long is the course?

The course takes 6 months to 1 year to complete depending on how much time students are able to dedicate to study.

Where and how can I study?

This course is delivered online and flexibly. This allows you to work at your own pace in the environment that suits you best; at home, work, or another campus.

For Indigenous students, the Indigenous Education Centre has its own Flexible Learning Centre with free computer and internet access. Regular contact with teachers (email/phone/face-to-face) is recommended to answer any queries and ensure your study plan is working effectively for you.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of assignments, theory tests, practical tests and observation. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
