This course provides a foundation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills and knowledge, for you to be an effective ICT user or employee. It is possible to achieve this qualification during the final years of secondary school education.

What employment opportunities will I have?
When you successfully complete this course, you can continue on to higher levels of study or apply for work in a range of jobs where basic computer skills have become necessary. For example graduates are employed in work places such as small to medium enterprises, warehousing, inventory control and retailing.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain intermediate skills in word processing operations, spreadsheet operations, using a database and using the internet. Computer hardware related subjects are also included.
What qualifications will I receive?
You will be awarded the Certificate II in Information Technology. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You will become eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as the Certificate III in Information Technology, continuing on up to an Advanced Diploma of Information Technology.
Can I apply?
There are no set educational pre-requisites to apply for this course. Anyone who has very basic computing skills can apply.

If you wish to apply for this course, you must obtain an application form from the Institute. Call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or 9279 2222 or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. This course has a mid-year intake, however mid-year intakes are closed for 2010.
How will I be selected for this course?
At an enrolment session you will have to complete a basic literacy and numeracy test. You will also be interviewed.
How long is the course?
Generally, six months of full-time study.
Where and how can I study?
This course is offered at Broadmeadows campus. It is also offered at the Flexible Learning Centre, Essendon Campus.
Mid year intakes are closed for 2010.
What costs and other fees should I expect?
For a fee schedule, call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or (03) 9279 2222. Alternatively email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. There may be an extra cost for reference books and specialised materials. Books and a memory stick (at least 1 GB capacity) for this course cost about $500.
How will I be assessed?
You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of assignments, theory tests, practical tests and observation. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
