This course may lead to employment in various retail outlets such as supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores or fast food outlets.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in communications and customer service, providing product and service advice to customers, organising and maintaining work areas and displays and learning how to merchandise, rotate and replenish retail shelves.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate II in Retail. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Graduates may continue to higher level studies such as a part time evening Certificate III in Retail and workshops in Certificate IV in Retail Management.
Can I apply?
There are no set prerequisites for this course. However you will need to demonstrate basic numeracy and literacy skills in order to undertake this course.

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to attend a short enrolment interview and sit a basic language, literacy and numeracy test.
How long is the course?
Approx 12-15 weeks. Intakes for this course beginn at the start of each term.
Where and how can I study?
Classes are held at the Essendon and Richmond campuses where you will have access to a simulated retail store, flexible learning environment and library.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods and on the job. Assessment methods will clearly be explained up front. There is also the opportunity for reassessment. You will be given this information at the time of enrolment.
Additional comments
This course runs at both Richmond and Essendon campuses.
This is a full-time course delivered flexibly which consists of:
3 days on campus comprising of classroom based training, field trips to shopping precincts and written assignments, 2 days in the workplace (22 day over the course).
What will I study?
Certificate II in Retail comprises 9 core units and 5 elective units. The units for this qualification include tutorials, assessment, work placement and on the job assessment and site visits. You will be given details of the course structure when you apply. Please refer to the module list for full details regarding units studied. This course is 390 hours.
