Course overview
This course will prepare you for working under supervision in residential high and low aged care facilities that have clearly defined accreditation standards and care plans. You will help maintain cleint's personal care and other activities and you may supervise junior workers. This qualification also enables the lawful administration of medication via dose administration aids such as Webster packs.

What employment opportunities will I have?
This course will give you skills to work under supervision in aged care facilities as a nursing assistant, home care providers and disability services.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain the skills, knowledge and professional attributes to work in the field of aged and disability care in the community and care facilities. You must be literate in written English and IT skills, as documentation is a large part of this course and essential for employability skills.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Aged Care. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You may continue on to higher level studies in community services and health, especially the Certificate IV in Nursing, Certificate IV in Aged Care and Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance.
Can I apply?
There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. All students must be a minimum of 18 years of age to complete placement/professional work experience requirements.
OR
You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)
Graduates of Certificates I and II in this speciality may continue their studies with the Certificate III. You must be literate in written English as documentation is a large part of this work. You will need an understanding of multicultural, Indigenous culture and history and work well with local communities in providing services.

How will I be selected for this course?
Applications are welcome. We will hold your application until planning for the next intake commences. All applicants are required to attend an information session, interview and undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment.
How long is the course?
The Fast Track course will run as an intensive course over three months. The first two months will be theory based, the third month will be professional experience. Theory based classes run from the Moonee Ponds Site, four days a week - Tuesday to Friday.
Time of class: 9am - 4pm.
We are also offering a slower paced version of the course in July 2012 which will run 2.5 days per week for 5 - 6 months.
Where and how can I study?
Classes are held at the Moonee Ponds Campus.
Placement in the clinical setting forms the major part of the assessment process. You will be required to undertake morning and afternoon shifts.
How will I be assessed?
You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You will be assessed by a combination of written assignments and tests, oral tests and practical assessments in class, or during a work placement. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal. If you already work in the field, you are eligible to apply for Skills Recognition.
Additional comments
The next scheduled intake for Certificate III in Aged Care is July 9th 2012 Slow Stream course.
There will also be a Fast Track inatke sceduled to commenced 18th September 2012.
Places are still available for each intake.
This course is highly recommended as preparation for the Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) or Certificate IV Allied Health Assistance (AHA).
