What costs and other fees should I expect?

What employment opportunities will I have?
This course will lead to employment as an accredited motorcycle mechanic mostly working in small businesses. Specialisation in the automotive trade is an increasing trend.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills to become an accredited tradesperson working in the motorcycle retail service and repair sector of the automotive industry.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion you will be awarded the Certificate lll in Automotive Mechanical (Motorcycle). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
This course leads to advanced study in automotive Certificate IV or Diploma courses.
Can I apply?
If you wish to apply for this course, you must be 15 years or older. You also must be employed in the field of motorcycle mechanics or have been offered an apprenticeship.
Entry to this course is via rolling enrolments.
How do I apply?
New Apprentices/Trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a “Contract of training” by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC).These AAC’s are located in Metropolitan and regional centres.

How will I be selected for this course?
Applicants must be currently employed as an apprentice or trainee in this field of specialisation.
How long is the course?
The course is conducted over three years, with 320 hours per year. The New Apprenticeship system offers you the flexibility to accelerate your progress, by gaining credits from another program, attending more classes, taking material home for home study, sourcing materials from the internet and having your skills assessed in your workplace.
Where and how can I study?
For the rest of 2011, this course may be offered at the Coburg campus. As of 2012, all automotive courses will be run from our ACE campus in Docklands. You can choose to study on block (one week every six weeks approximately), day release or in your workplace.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods and may take place in your workplace. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for re-assessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.
Additional comments
The course consists of twenty compulsory competencies and a further sixteen chosen by the employer to suit the workplace.
