What employment opportunities will I have?
Certificate III programs are the same as apprenticeships. People who successfully complete the certificate will be recognised as registered tradespeople in this field.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
With this certificate, plus appropriate training, apprentices will have the skills to work in the retail, service and repair sector of the automotive and heavy vehicle industry, on fork lift equipment
What qualifications will I receive?
As part of the Australian Qualification Framework this program is nationally recognised.
On successful completion you will be awarded the certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Forklift - Mechanical
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Further opportunities in the automotive industry may include Certificate IV or Diploma courses.
Can I apply?
You are eligible to apply if you are 15 years or older and have been offered an apprenticeship in this field.
How do I apply?
New Apprentices/Trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a “Contract of training” by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC).These AAC’s are located in Metropolitan and regional centres.

How will I be selected for this course?
Applicants must be currently employed as an apprentice or a trainee in the field.
How long is the course?
The program is run over three years, with 320 hours of classes a year. But the New Apprenticeship system offers you the flexibility to accelerate your progress.
Where and how can I study?
For the rest of 2011, this course may be offered at the Coburg campus. As of 2012, all automotive courses will be run from our ACE campus in Docklands. You can do your training by block (2 weeks in every 6 weeks) or day release or at your workplace.
How will I be assessed?
A mixture of practical tutorials, project work and written tests will be used in assessing this course. Assessment is a necessary part of this program, to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards.You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment and you will be provided with this information.
Additional comments
The course consists of six compulsory competencies and a further twenty two chosen by the employer to suit the workplace.
