You will gain skills in the automotive industry, specifically transmission and mechanical technology.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Credit transfers may be available into related Certificate IV or Diploma courses.
Can I apply?
You are eligible to apply if you are aged 15 years or over and have an employer or have been offered an apprenticeship in the specific area of specialisation.
How do I apply?
New Apprentices/Trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a “Contract of training” by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC).These AAC’s are located in Metropolitan and regional centres.

How will I be selected for this course?
Applicants must be currently employed as an apprentice in the respective field of specialisation.
How long is the course?
The program is run over three years, with 320 hours of classes a year. The New Apprenticeship system offers you the flexibility to accelerate your progress, by such means as: gaining credits from another program, attending more classes, taking material home for home study, sourcing materials from the internet or having your skills assessed in your workplace.
Where and how can I study?
For the rest of 2011, this course may be offered at the Richmond campus. As of 2012, all automotive courses will be run from our ACE campus in Docklands. You can do your training on block a week at a time or in the workplace.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.

The course has a high theory content and requires a student with dedication to achieve academic excellence.
What will I study?
You will study: petrol fuel systems; cooling systems; associated components; transmissions (automatic); final drive assemblies; final drive (driveline); test, service; replace battery; minor repairs to electrical circuits/systems; electronic drive management systems; welding, thermal cutting; heating procedures; diagnostic procedures; workplace OHS; use; maintain workplace tools; equipment; workplace communication; customer relations; and work schedules. Also, an additional three electives are to be selected.
