This course may lead you to work with an employer in panel beating and eventually lead to running your own business in this area.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

This course, combined with the appropriate workplace training, will enable you to become an accredited tradesperson in the Automotive Industry.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Automotive Vehicle Body: Panel Beater. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised..

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

Credits may be available into related Certificate IV or Diploma courses.

Can I apply?

You are eligible to apply if you are aged 15 years or over and have an employer or have been offered an apprenticeship in the specific area of specialisation.

How do I apply?

New Apprentices/Trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a Contract of training by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC), with Kangan Institute listed as the preferred provider . How will I be selected for this course?

All Applicants must be currently employed as an apprentice or trainee in the respective field of specialisation.

How long is the course?

The course duration is 3 years but can be completed earlier

Where and how can I study?

Block Release. You attend TAFE for one week full time every 5-6 weeks and will be working within your work shop for the remainder of the year. Study takes place at the ACE Docklands Campus: 1 Batmans Hill Drive, Docklands 3008.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate

Additional comments

Applicants must be currently employed as an apprentice or trainee in the respective field of specialisation. Students commence at different times of the year.

What will I study?

The subjects you will study will vary depending on the stream you choose and the Negotiated training contract (NTP) agreed to by the employer, student and TAFE. Some modules may include: Apply safe working practices
Use and maintain workplace tools and equipment
Prepare vehicle/component/equipment for customer use
Remove and replace vehicle headlining
Weld using gas metal arc welding process
Repair body panels (metal finishing)
Remove and replace mechanical units/assemblies
Repair/replace structural damage (welding)
Replace major welding panels
Repair vehicle body misalignment
Carry out major sectional repair
Carry out pre-repair operations (vehicle body)
Remove and replace adhesive bonded panels and structures
Perform routine oxy acetylene welding
Remove and replace/fit protector mouldings, transfers and decals etc
