What employment opportunities will I have?

This course is aimed at existing workers who are currently employed in a manufacturing environment. Completion of the course may lead to greater opportunities in your specialised area depending on your workplace situation.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in lean concepts and in applying the tools to support a lean enterprise.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate III in Competitive Manufacturing. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course is part of a suite of related courses in Competitive Manufacturing. You may continue on to higher level studies, such as the Certificate IV or Diploma in Competitive Manufacturing.

Can I apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course.

How will I be selected for this course?

It is preferred that you are employed to do this course. If not consult with the course facilitator.

How long is the course?

Normal duration of this course is 390 hours.

Where and how can I study?

Generally this course is completed on the job in a manufacturing environment.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will take place on the job in a manufacturing environment. You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course.

Assessment may include writtern, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.

To do this course it is preferred you are employed.

This course has a mid-year entry with enrolments for 2nd semester available half way through first semester.

What will I study?

To be awarded a Certificate III in Competitive Manufacturing competency must be achieved in 8 units chosen as specified below. At least 3 of these units must be from the 400 series MSA systems- the following MSA Systems unit must be chosen:
MSACMS200A Apply competitive manufacturing practices and one of the following units of competency:
MSAMCS201A Sustain process improvements
MSACMS401A Ensure process improvements are sustained
MSACMS405A Lead a manufacturing team using a balanced score card approach
(Only one of the above units may be counted towards the Certificate III).
MSA Change/interpersonal - at least one of the following units must be chosen:
MSACMC210A Manage the impact of change on own work OR
MSACM410A Lead change in a manufacturing environment (Only one of theses two units may be counted towards the Certificate III)
MSACM Tools
At least one of the following series 400 MSACM Tools units must be chosen.
MSACMT421A Facilitate a Just in Time (JIT) System
MSACMT430A Improve cost factors in work practices
MSACMT432A Analyse manual handling processes
MSACMT440A Lead 5S in a manufacturing environment
MSACMT450A Undertake process capability improvements
MSACMT451A Mistake proof a production process
