This course is designed for people who are new to their role as an Integration Aide or for those who wish to seek employment as an Integration Aide.

This course may also be of interest to experienced Integration Aides who are seeking a formal qualification.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course is designed to provide accredited training for people wishing to pursue a career as an Integration Aide in a primary or secondary school setting.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

On successful completion of this course you will have the skills and knowledge to apply specialist communication techniques with students and teachers. You will also be able to build strong relationships to assist teachers in the selection of reading materials to develop the reading and comprehension skills of students, thus assisting in the development of writing skills for students.

You will work with students with a range of special needs, to support the learning needs and the daily needs of students with disabilities in order for the students to operate successfully in a learning environment.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Education Support. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

On successful completion of the course you may choose to apply for further studies in education.

Can I apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However, it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills to undertake this course.

How will I be selected for this course?

Attendance at an Information Session is compulsory; it is the first step in being accepted for this course. You will also be required to complete a numeracy and literacy test, and may be called in for an interview. Call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au for more information.

How long is the course?

This is a 16 week part-time course, held each Thursday night at the Broadmeadows Campus from 6pm-9.30pm. Commencement date for Semester 2, 2011 will be in July and finishing Nov/Dec 2011.

Where and how can I study?

The course is available at the Broadmeadows Campus and will be offered at night and during the day in 2012.

Course 1 will be delivered on Thursday evening from 6pm-9:30pm and Course 2 will be delivered on a Wednesday from 9.30-3pm.

Students wishing to complete Advanced First Aid will need to do additional hours.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral and practical assessment methods. Students will complete some assessment flexibly (off-campus) and while on work placement.

You will be advised in advance regarding the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and information about this will be provided to you during the course.

What will I study?

Successful completion of the course requires 14 units - 8 core and 6 electives. There is also a work placement component totalling approx 76 hours.
Please note that all of the above listed electives are compulsory except for CHCEDS307A, CHCEDS319A and HLTFA301B. At least one of the non-compulsory electives must be selected.
