Course overview
This course is designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. It will help you work under supervision in residential facilities which have clearly defined guidelines and service plans. You will benefit by having an understanding of the Indigenous culture and history, as well as working with local communities to providing services.

This course will give you skills to work under supervision in public and private organisations such as aged care facilities and home care providers.

What qualifications will I receive?
When you successfully complete this course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Aged Care Work. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You may continue on to higher level studies, such as Certificate IV studies in Community Services and Health.

How will I be selected for this course?
All prospective students will need to contact the program coordinator and attend an induction session.
How long is the course?
Twelve months.
Where and how can I study?
Classes are held at the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre at the Broadmeadows campus. Students also have the option of working at their own pace through flexible delivery if they are already employed in an Aged Care setting.
What costs and other fees should I expect?
Indigenous applicants will pay the minimum tuition fees of $138, which includes enrolment, tuition, ancillary and amenities fees and basic material costs. Health care card holders are also entitled to pay the minimum tuition fees as above.
How will I be assessed?
You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of written assignments or tests, oral tests and practical assessments in class, or during a work placement. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.

The course is run at the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre where Indigenous people are welcomed in a comfortable and positive learning environment in which the Koori culture is respected and celebrated.
