What costs and other fees should I expect?

Contact the Customer Service Centre on 9279 2222 for a fee schedule. There are extra costs for books, stationery and other course materials. If you are currently unemployed or registered with a job network service, you may be eligible for free training in this approved course. Ask about the Federal Government's PPP training initiative.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course will give you skills to work under supervision in public and private organisations such as home care providers.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain entry-level skills and understanding to work with the aged and disabled in communities and care facilities.

What qualifications will I receive?

This course is offered as part of a dual qualification process - you are required to complete the Certificate III in Aged Care and then apply for Skills Recognition for the Certificate III in Home and Community Care - $55 for the application.

When you successfully complete this course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Home and Community Care. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You may continue on to higher level studies, such as the Certificate IV in Nursing and Certificate IV in Disability Work.

You also have the option of studying the Certificate III in Home and Community Care concurrently with either the Certificate IV in Disability Work or the Certificate III in Aged Care Work.

Can I apply?

You can apply via the RPL process if you are currently studying Certificate III in Aged Care.

How will I be selected for this course?

You will be interviewed and may have to complete a basic literacy and numeracy test. You also need to meet the physical demands of the work.

How long is the course?

6 months full time.

Where and how can I study?

Classes are held at Moreland campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You will be assessed by a combination of written assignments or tests, oral tests and practical assessments in class, or during a work placement. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
