On completion of our course, many of our students are successful in gaining employment with a range of companies, such as QANTAS Airlines, Virgin Blue, Student Travel Association, Harvey World Travel, Tour companies, Avis Car Rentals, reception centres, visitor information centres and a range of travel agencies and hotels.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in the retail travel sector, office procedures, visitor information and destination studies as some of the tourism related areas covered in this course.
Classes are a mix of practical activities (including industry familiarisations, excursions and on-site guest speakers, activities where students assist in the organisation and running of events) and the theoretical course content, where students will learn skills such as fares & ticketing and the airline automated reservations system, Galileo.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the CERTIFICATE III IN TOURISM (RETAIL TRAVEL SALES). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
On successful completion of the Certificate III, students may apply to continue their studies at Certificate 4 level and through to the Advanced Diploma.
Can I apply?
There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course.
OR
You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)
How do I apply?
To apply for this course you must fill in a direct application form which can be obtained from the institute by calling the Contact Centre on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. This course may also have a mid-year intake depending on registered interest.
How will I be selected for this course?
All prospective students will be required to attend an interview and complete a pre-selection form. Interviews will be arranged on an individual basis.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisite studies.
How long is the course?
Course runs for six months.
Flexible and some classroom time may be required.
Classes for 2012 commence on 8th February with an Orientation Day for all new students, at 10am in D-118 Richards Restaurant.
You do not have to bring anything with you.
Time tables and all the necessary info will be provided to you on this day.
This course has on-going enrolments- semester 1 and semester 2 intakes
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Broadmeadows Campus.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is an opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.
