Course overview

The entry level full-time course will prepare you for working with minimal supervision in technologically sophisticated warehouses.

The course includes forklift licensing for both counter balance forklift; order picker forklift, high risk to work classes LF,LO. Reach truck forklift training is also included, however to obtain the above licences you must be over the age of 18 years.

The course is also offered to employees in the industry under a traineeship program or done through fee for service.

What costs and other fees should I expect?

Fees for concession card holders is $400.00 and for non-concession the fees is $1,450.00. This fee does not include a$120 licence fee payable to Worksafe.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to employment in a range of occupations in a warehousing environment.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in organising operations for receiving and despatching goods, efficient management and handling of stock, using a warehouse management system, RF scanners and implementing quality work practices.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Transport and Logistics (Warehousing and Storage). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

You will also receive Forklift licences for both counter balance forklift; orderpicker forklift, high risk to work classes LF , LO.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

Students may wish to continue with the Certificate lV in Transport and Logistics (Warehousing and Storage). Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV, students may then enrol into the Diploma of Logistics.

Can I apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However, students will be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy test (this is not a pass-fail test ) on the first day. The test will only be used to determine if a student requires any assistance , which will be provided. No student will be disadvantaged by being required to complete this test.

Applicants who have experience may be eligible for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning). Please contact the kangan Institute Skills Store for further details of the RPL process.

There will be six Cert111 programs conducted in 2011.

Students may enrol on any Wednesday morning, 9.30am to 11.30am at the Broadmeadows campus, Building T Room T102.

In the industry new trainees will first need to be employed and signed up to a ' Contract of training" by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC). These AAC's are located in Metropolitan and regional centres and includes Job Plus Apprenticeship Service, etc. Trainees should ask for Kangan Institute to be their preferred training provider when they first sign their agreement with AAC.

How will I be selected for this course?

You will be required to attend an interview prior to course commencement.

How long is the course?

This is a full-time six-week course running Monday - Thursdays, from 9am-4pm.
Students with existing skills and knowledge at this level can apply for a full recognition of prior learning assessment for this qualification. Please contact the Kangan Institute Skills Store for further information on the RPL process.

Where and how can I study?

This course is delivered Monday - Thurs, 9-4pm for 6 weeks in our distribution facility, Building T, Broadmeadows campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment/s and how it will be applied. There is an official appeals and reassessment policy available for use by students as required.
