What costs and other fees should I expect?

Contact the Customer Service Centre on 9279 2222 for a fee schedule. There will be extra costs for reference books of approximately $150 and protective clothing of approximately $120.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course will enable graduates to work as tradespersons in the Upholstery Industry.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

This course provides comprehensive training for upholstery apprentices in all practical and theoretical aspects of the upholstery trade. Wherever possible, work is undertaken on full-sized projects on campus.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Upholstery. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you are eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion, issued by the Victorian Qualifications Authority.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You may go on to complete the Diploma of Furnishing (Furniture Technology), Diploma of Arts (Furniture Design) or the Certificate IV in Furnishing (Furniture Production). These courses are supported by Furnishing Training Victoria and the furnishing industry.

Can I apply?

There are no pre-requisites for this course. You can apply if you have an employer prepared to offer you an apprenticeship (Contract of Training in this trade). The Institute has a policy of equal opportunity and welcomes both male and female students. Women are continually entering the furniture industry and find the work both suitable and challenging.

How do I apply?

You can register your intention to enrol through a registered Australian Apprenticeship Centre(AAC) in conjunction with your employer. AAC will contact the Furnishing Department, who will contact the apprentice and the employer. Enquiries to the Customer Service Centre on 9279 2222 or email: enquiries@kangan.edu.au

How will I be selected for this course?

You will be required to complete a comprehension, literacy and numeracy test.

How long is the course?

Apprentices attend the institute one day per week, for up to three years. A total of up to 813 hours of training is required by the training package requirements for this course.

Where and how can I study?

This course is offered at the Coburg campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
