Course overview
This course is for those who would like to work with physiotherapists, speech therapists, podiatrists, dieticians and occupational therapists. Allied Health Assistant roles are becoming more involved in assessment and planning of therapeutic and rehabilitation programs.

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and professional attributes to work in public and private hospitals and the rehabilitation sector.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in therapy support, rehabilitation and patient care.
What qualifications will I receive?
When you successfully complete this course, you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You may be able to continue on to higher level studies, such as a Diploma in specialist key therapy areas.
Can I apply?
Anyone can apply for this course however all students must be of 18 years of age to complete placement/professional work experience requirements. 2012 applications are now closed. Applications now being taken for February 2013.

How will I be selected for this course?
As part of the selection criteria, applicants are required to:
1. Attend the information session
2. Sit a literacy and numeracy test
3. Attend an interview if selected by the Assistant Manager
How long is the course?
The course is run three days per week. It is expected that 10 hours of flexible study per week is required which is considered a full-time course.
Where and how can I study?
The course is held at the Moonee Ponds Site.
How will I be assessed?
A mixture of practical tutorials, project work and written tests will be used in assessing this course. Assessment is a necessary part of this program to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards. You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment. You will be provided with this information.
Additional comments
This qualification replaces the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance and provides graduates with the opportunity to work across a range of allied health areas. It is emerging as the preferred qualification in hospitals and 'super clinics'.
