This course is designed for those who strive to broaden their business operations management skill set. The course content covers a wide diversity of business aspects such as, leadership, scheduling, purchasing, warehousing, OHS, Lean manufacturing as well as a variety of key business principles.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to employment in managing business operations in fields ranging from manufacturing, logistics, servicing, hospitality and most other industry sectors.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain knowledge and skills in most aspects of business functions in industry. The skills gained are targeted to be at a level of competency where the student will understand the operating fundamentals of the business aspect. This course will also provide a solid skill set to build upon, in order to gain further operational and management skills in that field.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of this accredited course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Business (Operations Management). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course will lead to higher level studies at diploma and advanced diploma level. Credit transfers may be available into other related courses (eg. Diploma of Logistics Management). Note: From July 1st 2011, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma of Business (Operations Management) can be studied independently. ie. without having the lower qualification.

Can I apply?

You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course or, are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

How will I be selected for this course?

All applicants will need to attend an interview with the course facilitator.

How long is the course?

The course content of 12 units will take 12 months to complete. This is based on attendance of two evening sessions per week.

Where and how can I study?

This course is available at the Broadmeadows campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance regarding the type of assessment and how it will operate. You will be provided with information regarding the opportunities for reassessment or appeal.

Additional comments

Students are eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). To pass RPL assessments, students will have to demonstrate competence in the subject by current work skills, experience and related accredited training evidence.
This course has a mid-year entry.

The course will comprise of units in the following business aspects: workplace relations, customer service, OHS, information technology, business maths, warehousing, production scheduling and management, workplace statistics, industrial relations, lean systems and other key business functions.
