Call the Contact Centre on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or (03) 9279 2222 for a fee schedule. Cost will depend on your personal circumstances and previous qualifications.

Alternatively email enquiries@kangan.edu.au. There may be an extra cost for reference books and specialised materials. Concession may be available for those that have valid health care cards and who meet the criteria.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to obtain entry level employment as occupational health and safety practitioners. It is also designed to train those currently employed in occupational health and safety, assist those seeking employment in this field and provide a practical approach to occupational health and safety.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills for working in the field of occupational health and safety or safety management.

What qualifications will I receive?

When you successfully complete this course, you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You may be able to continue on to higher level studies, such as a Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety.

Can I apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy, computer and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course.

How will I be selected for this course?

Attend a 15 minute telephone interview or face to face meeting.
The aim of this meeting is to ensure:
- You are prepared for studying online with self paced progress
- Have the ability to read and write about complex documents
- Have intermediate computer skills (are able to use email, the internet, use files and word documents)
- You have a commitment and enthusiasm for OHS and/or access to a workplace to complete assessment tasks

How long is the course?

As this course is flexible, there is no definite start or end date. There is an average duration of approx 1 year, however this is flexible.

Where and how can I study?

The course is offered in flexible mode with some face to face support available by arrangement at the Moonee Ponds campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written and practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.

Additional comments

Recognition of Prior Learning/Recognition of Current Competency is available.

This is a process of recognising that you already have achieved competency in one or more of the units of competency. The process provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate competency as a result of the relevant skills and knowledge you have gained from any combination of:
- other courses/training
- life experience
- work experience or
- wherever else you have developed and maintained your competency.

Please discuss this at interview if you think you already have competency from any of the above situations.

- Are you self directed and motivated?
- Do you have a high level of commitment to completing the qualification?

- Maintain contact with the your teacher

- Complete all units within specific timeframes (timetable will be provided at enrolment)
