This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for those wanting to advance into front line management in the retail or wholesale industries. It applies to those managing a small retail/wholesale outlet, or a section or department within a large retail/wholesale outlet.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to employment as a store manager, department manager, sales manager, merchandise manager, shift manager, or customer service manager.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills across a broad range of retail management such as leading and managing people, managing merchandise and store presentation, business and financial planning, recruitment and selection of staff, which will prove transferable and provide pathways for further career development.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Retail Management. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course will lead to higher level studies at diploma level:
Diploma of Retail Management and Diploma of Visual Merchandising (both offered at Kangan Institute).

Can I apply?

All applicants will ideally be employed within the retail industry with access to managerial tasks/responsibilities. Alternatively, you will have successfully completed specific units in Certificate II and III in Retail and/or must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of retail supervisory/management experience.

How will I be selected for this course?

All applicants will need to attend a short interview and pass a language, literacy and numeracy test at level 3 of the national reporting system.

How long is the course?

The course consists of day workshops held once a month at the Richmond Campus.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will predominantly consist of written assignments, presentations or practical assessment methods. All assessment requirements will be clearly explained at induction and at the beginning of each unit.

An element of self-paced learning is expected as most participants are employed at this stage of study.
