Course overview
The Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English - Further Studies is designed to improve the English language skills of people with a non-English speaking background.
The certificates are offered at four levels:
Certificate I - Beginner;
Certificate II - Post-Beginner;
Certificate III - Intermediate; and
Certificate IV - Advanced.
At certificate IV level, two streams may be available. The streams are Further Education and Jobseeking

What costs and other fees should I expect?
For AMEP eligible students the cost is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) up to 510 hours or completion of CSWE 3.
For LLNP referred students, the cost is funded by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
For Profile funded (fee paying) students with a concession card, the course cost is $107.00.
For Profile funded (fee paying) students without a concession card, the cost is $1.50 per study hour.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course aims to prepare students of a non-English speaking background with the English language skills needed to enter further study in their chosen occupation or related fields.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in English language including listening, speaking, reading and writing. The courses also include topics related to Australian culture.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English - Further Studies. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
If you do not complete the whole certificate, you may apply for a Statement of Attainment for the modules you have successfully completed.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Certificate IV prepares students for entry to vocational education and training in TAFE institutes or for entry to tertiary institutions.

Where and how can I study?
This course is available at the Broadmeadows campus on a full-time or part-time basis during the day.
How will I be assessed?
You are required to be assessed in this program, to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards/modules.
Assessment may include a combination of written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be informed in advance about the type(s) of assessment and the procedure for the assessment (e.g. timeline, criteria you will be judged against). There will also be opportunity for reassessment and appeal, and you will be provided with this information.
What will I study?
You will study English language including speaking, listening, reading, writing, non-verbal communication and cultural awareness.
