What employment opportunities will I have?
This course may lead to employment in local councils, Department of Human Services, Community based organisations, youth specific agencies and housing services.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain the skills to identify individual issues and implement strategies to assist young people to improve their quality of life. You will also gain the ability to advocate on behalf of young people, engage in one-on-one support work, group work skills and develop solid interpersonal communication skills.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Youth Work. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
You may be eligible to apply for further studies in community services including: alcohol and other drugs work, Diploma of Community Services Work and Diploma of Community Development.
Can I apply?
Students interested in this course must attend an information session and a group interview. This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in working with young people. You do not need to have previous work experience. It is also suitable for existing workers seeking to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Most applicants are over 20 years of age, with a proficiency in oral and written communication. A clear police record and Working with Children Check are required for employment in this area.

How long is the course?
The course is one year full-time (4 days per week) OR two years part-time (Thursday 1.30pm - 9pm).
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Broadmeadows campus.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
