There will be extra costs for reference books of approximately $500. A detailed booklist will be made available when you enrol in this course.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of those already in assistant accounting positions and for those seeking initial employment in a variety of accounting related functions under the control of a supervising accountant. These include bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, stock, payroll, budgeting, and tax return preparation.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain broad-based skills and knowledge in accounting specialisations, including corporate financial accounting, financial management, cost and management accounting, accounting systems and internal controls, and taxation.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Diploma of Accounting. This program is nationally recognised as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Kangan Institute students completing the Diploma of Accounting may continue on to the Advanced Diploma of Accounting (FNS60210).
A completed Advanced Diploma of Accounting will provide you with significant credits towards your studies in Accounting (or other business-related disciplines) in a Bachelors Degree at university.
Can I apply?
The entry requirement for this course is the completion of the units comprising the core of the Certificate IV in Accounting. The entry requirement can be met by evidence of equivalent competency to the above through our Skills Recognition process.

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to attend an interview and enrolment session, bringing with them evidence of their citizenship (or residency) status and (if under 20 years of age at 1 January, 2012) proof of age in order to enrol in the course.
You may also be required to sit a literacy and numeracy test to determine the level of support required (if any) having enrolled in this course.
How long is the course?
The course would normally be completed in six months (full-time) or one year (part-time), but may be completed in a shorter time depending on the nature and extent of your previous formal studies, work and life experience.
Where and how can I study?
This course will operate from the Broadmeadows campus and can be undertaken in a traditional, face-to-face learning mode. As an alternative to attending formal classes you may wish to study more flexibly, attending some classes/workshops, or perhaps study entirely from home (in a distance learning mode).
Classes are available during weekdays and evenings, and students may enrol as either part-time or full-time.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information upon commencement of your classes.

This course has two key intakes (beginning and mid-year), but students may enrol at other times (subject to restrictions imposed by course census dates).
Students may commence their Accounting studies in the Certificate III in Accounts Administration or in the Certificate IV in Accounting (or Bookkeeping) and then continue those studies in the Diploma of Accounting.
To enrol in the Diploma of Accounting it is not strictly necessary to have completed either the Certificate III or IV qualifications in Accounting (or Bookkeeping). However, as all core units in the Certificate IV in Accounting (or Bookkeeping) must be completed In order for the Diploma of Accounting to be awarded, it is therefore strongly recommended that you do commence your Accounting studies at either Certificate III or IV level.
