Course overview

This course provides an advanced level of corporate understanding. The course prepares you for running a business, office supervision and office management. You will be ready for a top-level administrative career or further studies, with possible credit transfers at university.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course will train you for work in a supervisory or middle management role, or assisting professionals in office administrative or management positions such as office supervisor, office manager, personal assistant, or executive assistant.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in the business procedures of an office and develop a range of office management skills. These skills include managing meetings and conferences, planning and reviewing administration systems, managing business document design and development, managing recruitment selection and induction programs and managing projects.

What qualifications will I receive?

When you successfully complete this course you will be awarded the Diploma of Business. This is a nationally recognised course as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You may be eligible to continue on to higher level studies, such as an Advanced Diploma, or an undergraduate degree. As a graduate of this course, you may receive credits towards a university degree in business or commerce.

Can I apply?

You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed Certificate IV in Business, Certificate IV in Business Administration or have approved equivalent industry skills and experience.

How will I be selected for this course?

You will be interviewed by our teachers to assess your suitability for the course.

How long is the course?

Twelve months if following the set program consisting of eight (8) theory competencies. Students do not attend class but work independently under the guidance of a mentor. In some cases a customised approach may be negotiated with the teacher to enable the course to be completed in less time.

If studying the unit Manage Business Document Design and Development, attendance in class is required one night per fortnight for 6 months. (This unit replaces one of the administration theory subjects.)

Where and how can I study?

Students are also expected to work independently on course work and assignments.

Study is at the Broadmeadows Campus for one night per fortnight if undertaking the unit Manage Business Document Design and Development.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required for the course. You may be assessed by written or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance the type and dates of assessment . If needed, you will have the opportunity for reassessment.

Additional comments

Students can commence units from this course throughout the year. There is continuing enrolment which is negotiated with the mentor.

Students study eight (8) theory competencies OR have the choice of studying Manage Business Document Design and Development in place of one of the administration competencies.
