What costs and other fees should I expect?
Contact us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or enquiries@kangan.edu.au for a fee schedule. The Federal Government has committed to paying the tuition fees for the Diploma studies until 2014. There will be extra costs for Institute fees, reference books or specialised materials.
What employment opportunities will I have?
Employment opportunities are extremely high with a 'skills shortage' of Diploma trained workers, particularly in the long day care field. A graduate may apply for positions in day care centres as EarlyChildhood Educators, in playgroups as Program Facilitators, in private homes as Nanies, in Out of School Hours Care as Program Leaders and in other children's services.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills to work with infants and children from birth to eight years of age and gain the essential employability skills required to work effectively within a team and lead a room within a children's service.
What qualifications will I receive?
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion you will be awarded the Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care).
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Kangan Institute students who graduate with a Diploma of Children's Services are able to take advantage of the 'pathways' arrangement with both Victoria University and Monash University. Students can receive advanced standing (credit) in the form of course credit points towards a bachelor qualification. Each university study unit carries a credit point value.
As of 03/2010, students who have graduated with the Diploma of Children's Services can utilise advanced standing pathways in the following bachelor degrees:
Monash University
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies (BECS) [Subject to standard Monash application and enrolment procedures]
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) [Subject to standard Monash application and enrolment procedures]
Victoria University (VU)
- Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Primary) [Pathway and credit for 12 months/8 units]
