Course overview
This course aims to provide the student with the skills necessary to work in the human resources field.
Full-time day course:
This course is offered over 9 months in conjunction with either a Diploma of Management as part of a full-time course. The full course spans 2 years underpinning the Certificate IV in Human Resources in conjunction with a Certificate IV in Frontline Management (9 months) and culminating with an Advanced Diploma of Management - (Human Resource) Advanced Diploma in Management in conjunction with an Advanced Diploma of Management (6 months).
Part-time night course:
This course is offered 2 nights a week over 12 months at our Essendon Campus, and is suited to people with 5 -10 years industry experience who find themselves in management or supervisory roles, or who are looking to advance their career in those directions.

What employment opportunities will I have?
This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to function effectively in a range of levels within the human resources sector, e.g. Human Resource Officer.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain a comprehensive set of generic and specific human resource competencies to enable you to work in a specific human resource role such as Human Resource Officer.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Diploma of Human Resources Management. (If completing as part of the Dual Award program you will also receive the other Diploma you study). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
On successful completion of the Diploma of Human Resources Management further studies are available in the Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources). This course may also articulate into university courses.
Can I apply?
You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course; or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to meet the prerequisites to enter this course, e.g. you may have Certificate IV qualifications in HR or similar, or you may have relevant vocational experience but no qualifications.
How long is the course?
This is a nine month full-time course and forms part of the Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources) (Full course takes 2 years). Eight units of competency must be successfully completed in order to obtain the Diploma award.
The part time evening course may take nine months (2 nights per week) to complete depending upon previous formal study, work and life experience.
Where and how can I study?
Full-time: You will study at the Broadmeadows campus in classroom mode.
Part-time: You will study at the Essendon campus in evening classes.
How will I be assessed?
A mixture of practical tutorials, project work, written work, demonstration, case studies and written tests may be used in assessing this course. Assessment is a necessary part of this program, to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards. You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment and you will be provided with this information.
