What employment opportunities will I have?

The course will train you for work in the Information Technology industry as a games developer, games programmer, software applications specialist or a software developer or software engineer.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in object oriented programming, database design and development, SQL programming language using SQL Server and DB2, developing web based applications, project management, software testing and scripting languages.

What qualifications will I receive?

When you successfully complete this course you will be awarded the Diploma of Information Technology (Software Development). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

You may be eligible to continue on to higher level studies, such as the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology. Credit transfer is granted equivalent to one year of study in Computer Science, Information Systems or Software Engineering degree courses at most universities.

Can I apply?

You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming) or its equivalent and the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months).

How do I apply?

Part-time applicants may be required to apply directly to the Institute. Enquiries to us on 13 TAFE (13 8233).

How will I be selected for this course?

All applicants need to attend an interview. You may have to complete a pre-selection form and be prepared to sit an English Language and aptitude test.

How long is the course?

One year full time.

Where and how can I study?

This course is available both full-time and part-time at our Broadmeadows campus.

Where possible, the course is also offered as 'mixed mode' which is a mixture of structured classes and workshop sessions.

What costs and other fees should I expect?

Contact us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) for a fee schedule. Books and memory stick (at least 1 GB capacity) for this course cost over $500. An external hard disk instead of a memory stick is also acceptable.

How will I be assessed?

You will need to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. You may be assessed by a combination of assignments, theory tests, practical tests, project work and observation. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, you will have the chance for reassessment and appeal.
