This course is designed for those who have completed their VCE or for Adults seeking a pathway into University study in the Arts or Humanities. It is also suitable for people wishing to develop their research, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

What costs and other fees should I expect?

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to employment in areas such as community development, education, human movement, law, professional and creative writing, psychology, public relations or social work following suitable further tertiary studies.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills and knowledge in academic and online research, electronic presentations, citizenship, cultural analysis, the environment, economy, literary analysis, sociology and psychology.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Diploma of Liberal Arts. After successful completion of the first year of the course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Liberal Arts. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course may lead to higher level studies at University. Graduates of the Certificate IV course may apply for entry into University in the Arts or Humanities courses while the Diploma graduates will be able to apply for a years credit at various universities.

Can I apply?

This course is available to students who have successfully completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent. The course is also available to mature age students who can demonstrate the literacy and numeracy requirements of the course. Mature age students are those 18 years or older who have not been in secondary schooling for the last academic year.

How do I apply?

To apply for this course you must fill in a direct application form which can be obtained from the institute by calling the Contact Centre on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or emailing enquiries@kangan.edu.au.

How will I be selected for this course?

All applicants will need to complete the direct application form. Applicants will also need to demonstrate or provide evidence of having the literacy and numeracy skills level required for the course. Applicants will be interviewed and may need to provide additional information such as a short essay explaining the reasons for choosing the course and how their experience and education relates to the course and their career goals.

How long is the course?

The course is 2 year full time. Successful completion of the first year of study qualifies students for the Certificate IV in Liberal Arts. Successful completion of the second year of study qualifies students for the Diploma of Liberal Arts.

Where and how can I study?

You will study at the Broadmeadows campus.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
