Can I apply?

You may apply for entry into this course if you have completed a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice or an equivalent qualification.

How do I apply?

Full-time applicants for the course starting in February 2012 must apply through VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre). Details of the application process can be obtained through the VTAC website or through the VTAC Guide which is available from leading newsagents and libraries.

Direct entry applicants for 2012 must complete a profile form to be found at www.kangan.edu.au/departments/centre-for-better-living and return to the department by January 31st 2012.

Please note direct entry applications will be considered after the VTAC selection process is completed.

How will I be selected for this course?

Students who have completed the Certificate IV in Massage with Kangan Institute will have preference in selection. For all other applicants, selection is based upon the application form submitted to the department. It is advisable to follow up the application by making an appointment with the course coordinator to discuss your plans.

Personal qualifications, work experience and sporting experience will be taken into account as well as previous academic results. Mature age students must apply through VTAC and are selected through personal qualifications, work experience and sporting experience as well as previous academic results.

How long is the course?

This is a 1 year full-time course. Currently students attend classes for three days per week, including one evening for simulated workplace at the Student Clinic located on campus. Please note, this is subject to change.

Where and how can I study?

This course is offered at the Kangan Institute Richmond campus. You will be required to study within the classroom, within the supervised simulated workplace student clinic, directed study away from the classroom and within external workplaces.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. There are a variety of “tools” used to assess whether students have achieved competency.

These may include: formal exams, open book exams, short answer tests, essays, class presentations, group projects, class participation, role-plays of simulations, fieldwork assignments, ongoing assessment, practical demonstrations, observations and reports.

You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.

Additional comments

Students are required to massage other students and be massaged by other students in the class. As this forms part of the course assessment students who are unable to give or receive massages will not be able to pass the course and therefore should not enrol into this course.

Students who complete the Diploma in Remedial Massage course may be eligible to continue into the Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage (Myotherapy) course. The Advanced Diploma takes an extra 12 months to complete.
