Course overview
This course is designed to allow graduates to advance to tertiary study in related sport courses with the relevant advanced standing. Students can opt to gain industry accreditation certificates from sport organisations as part of the Diploma. There is also an on-the-job training component which opens the door to the sports industry.

The current materials fees for 2012 is $220.00. This includes texts, a Kangan Institute polo shirt and any other associated printing. There may be extra costs for reference books, protective clothing or specialised materials.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course prepares individuals for work in administrative and supervisory positions in sport and government organisations. The Diploma is linked with the Sport and Recreation Industry through the on-the-job training components. This provides an immediate avenue for the student to gain knowledge of the skills and opportunities in their chosen industry.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in project management, client service, sport administration, legal issues, event management, communication and technology.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Diploma of Sport and Recreation. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Credit transfers may be available into sports related university courses.
Can I apply?
Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation is a pre-requisite for this Diploma course. You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course.
How do I apply?
To apply for the course starting in February 2012, your application must be lodged using the VTAC Online Application. Details of the application process can be obtained through the VTAC website or through the VTAC Guide which is available from leading newsagents and libraries.
Direct entry applicants for 2012 must complete a profile form accessible at www.kangan.edu.au/departments/centre-for-better-living/ and return to the department by January 31st 2012.
Please note direct entry applications will be considered after the VTAC selection process is completed.
How will I be selected for this course?

You are advised to refer to the guide or the website to ensure that you follow guidelines for the selection process to be eligible for consideration. Preference will be given to applicants who have submitted the Pre-Selection Profile Form which is accessible at http://www.kangan.edu.au/departments/centre-for-better-living/.
How long is the course?
This is a two year full-time course. The first year incorporates the Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation. The diploma year requires students to attend class two and a half days per week. Currently, students attend class Tuesday to Thursday. Please note, these days are subject to change for 2012.
Where and how can I study?
This course is offered at the Kangan Institute Richmond campus. Practical classes will be held at local recreational facilities.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.
What will I study?
Organisation, Administration, Client relations, Communication, Marketing, Leisure and Recreation Studies, Events and Projects, Technology, Team Management.
